Age and Growth Study of Charlotte River Creek Chubs Kristopher Shawn Kehi Department of Science and Natural Resources Lake Superior State University Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 Abstract Creek Chubs (Semotilus atromaculatus) were seined from the Charlotte River to do a growth study. Length frequency analysis was used to detennine age class structure, and scale analysis was used to verify the length frequency age designation. Young of the year through age class IV were found. The direct proportion method was used to calculate the length at age for previous years. Average calculated length at the first annulus was 46 mm., at the second annulus was 88 mm and at the third annulus was 123 mm. The growth rates were found to be close to those of another study done at a similar latitude, however where slower than a study done at a lower latitude. Selected References: Becker, G.C. 1983.
